Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can we help you?

Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask about treatments, comfort options and what to expect when you visit us. If you don’t see your question here, our friendly team is only a phone call away and happy to help.

Children's Dentistry

Children’s dental care plays a role in setting the foundation of healthy smiles. Even though baby teeth eventually fall out, they’re essential for proper chewing, speech development and holding space for adult teeth. Early visits can help children become familiar with the dentist in a fun, positive way, reducing fear or anxiety as they get older.

Personalised Dental Care for Kids

Typically, the first visit involves a gentle examination to check growth and development, ensure teeth are erupting properly and look for any early signs of decay. We also spend time educating parents about brushing techniques, diet tips and how to prevent cavities. If needed, a professional cleaning may be performed, but the focus is often on building familiarity and trust.

Our team uses kid-friendly language, lots of encouragement and even comfort items like TVs and stress balls. Establishing good oral hygiene habits early is one of the best ways to prevent future dental issues, and with routine children’s dental care, we can help your little one avoid certain dental health concerns like tooth decay, gum disease, dental injuries and more.

Cleanings and Exams

Most patients benefit from professional dental cleanings and exams every six months, though some may need more frequent visits depending on their oral health. Cleanings and exams are the cornerstone of preventative dentistry because they allow us to detect problems early, maintain gum health and keep your smile looking fresh.

During a cleaning, our team removes plaque and tartar buildup that daily brushing and flossing can’t reach. This helps prevent cavities, gum disease and even bad breath. At the same appointment, your Logan Reserve dentist will perform an exam to check for signs of decay, infection or early stages of gum disease. We also screen for oral cancer, bite issues and other potential concerns.

Many patients are surprised by how much of an impact regular cleanings can have on their overall health. Studies show a connection between oral health and conditions like heart disease and diabetes, so staying on top of dental visits supports your general wellbeing too.

Ready to Book Your Dental Cleaning and Exam?

If you book a new patient special at our practice, you’ll even receive a professional cleaning during your very first visit. Consistent cleanings and exams are a way to protect both your teeth, gums and overall oral health.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a modern alternative to traditional braces for straightening teeth. Brands like Invisalign®  use a series of custom-made, removable trays that gently move your teeth into position over time. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before moving to the next in the series, gradually creating a straighter smile. *Results and treatment times vary.

  • Removable and Nearly Invisible — Unlike braces, clear aligners are nearly invisible to most and can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing.
  • No Food Restrictions and Easier Oral Hygiene — This means no food restrictions, easier oral hygiene and minimal impact on many people's daily lives.
  • Convenient — Many adults and teens appreciate aligners because they fit well into daily routines without drawing attention.

Treatment times vary depending on the complexity of your case, but many patients see their desired results in as little as 12 to 124 months. Aligners can correct issues like crowding, gaps, overbites, underbites, and crossbites. We recommend wearing the aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day.

At our Logan Reserve dental practice, we’ll use advanced digital scans to design your custom aligners and monitor your progress throughout treatment. Clear aligners combine comfort, convenience and effectiveness, making them one of today’s most popular orthodontic solutions.

Crowns and Bridges

Yes, same-day dental crowns are typically just as durable and reliable as traditional crowns and often come with added advantages. Thanks to advanced technology like CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics), your crown is typically designed, milled and fitted in one day. This process uses dental-grade ceramic that mimics the strength and appearance of natural enamel, meaning the crown is designed to withstand normal biting and chewing forces.

Enhanced Convenience and Comfort

One of the biggest differences patients notice is the convenience. With traditional crowns, you’d typically need at least two appointments spaced a couple of weeks apart, wear a temporary crown in the meantime and deal with the hassle of extra numbing and impressions. Same-day crowns eliminate that inconvenience, giving you a restoration in just one visit.

Longevity of CEREC Crowns

When it comes to longevity, same-day crowns hold up well, often 10–15 years or more with good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups. As with any crown, habits like teeth grinding, nail-biting or chewing on ice can reduce their lifespan, but with proper care, they’re considered to be a good long-term solution.

CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns in Logan Reserve

CEREC same-day crowns can deliver the same quality as traditional methods, with the bonus of walking out with your final restoration the very same day.

Dental Implants

Dental implants replace missing teeth because they mimic the natural structure of a tooth. An implant consists of a small titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone to act as an artificial root. Once healed, a custom-made crown, bridge or denture is attached to the implant, creating a replacement designed to look, feel and function just like a natural tooth.

Unlike dentures or traditional bridges, dental implants don’t rely on surrounding teeth for support. This means the healthy teeth are preserved, and because implants integrate with your jawbone, they also help prevent bone loss, which is a common issue after losing teeth. With proper care, dental implants can last decades or even a lifetime. However, as with any dental care treatment, it's important to remember that all results and treatment times vary per case.

Need Dental Implants in Logan Reserve?

Dental implants in Logan Reserve can replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth or even a full arch with options like All-on-4® or implant-supported dentures.

If you’ve lost a tooth or are considering alternatives to dentures, dental implants may be the solution for you. We invite you to book your consultation today to learn more.

Dento-Facial Services

All injectables provided by Logan Reserve Dental are administered by qualified, registered practitioners in accordance with current AHPRA guidelines. Results and treatment times vary.

Therapeutic injectables can help relax overactive muscles, making them a valuable treatment for conditions like temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ/TMD), teeth grinding (bruxism) and chronic jaw tension. By reducing muscle strain, these injectables can help relieve pain, protect teeth from wear and improve jaw function.

In addition to therapeutic uses, dento-facial injectables can complement cosmetic dentistry by smoothing fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. It can also correct 'gummy smiles' by reducing excessive gum display when one smiles.

The procedure itself is performed right in our dental clinic. Most patients describe only minor discomfort, similar to a small pinprick and results typically last 3–4 months.

Ready to Book Your Consultation with Us?

At our Logan Reserve dental practice, our injectables are always performed by a trained professional who understands dento-facial anatomy and structure. Whether you’re seeking relief from jaw pain or want to complement a cosmetic treatment, therapeutic injections can be an option worth considering for many.

We invite you to give us a call to book your appointment. We are also available to answer any questions you may have!

Emergency Dentistry

A dental emergency is considered to be a situation that involves severe oral-related pain, trauma or infection that needs immediate attention to relieve discomfort or prevent long-term damage. Common examples include:

  • Severe toothaches that won’t go away
  • Knocked-out or loose permanent teeth
  • Broken or cracked teeth causing pain
  • Abscesses with swelling
  • Uncontrolled oral bleeding

These issues should be addressed as soon as possible, ideally on the same day.

Emergency Dentistry in Logan Reserve, QLD

At our Logan Reserve dental practice, we offer various emergency appointments because we know dental pain doesn’t follow a 9 to 5 schedule. If you’ve knocked out a tooth, time is critical. We recommend trying to place the tooth back in the socket or keep it moist in milk until you can get to us. This greatly improves the chance of saving it. For abscesses or swelling, urgent care is essential, as untreated infections can spread quickly and affect your overall health.

We Welcome Your Call

Not all dental issues are emergencies. For example, a lost filling or crown without pain, or a small chip that doesn’t hurt, can usually wait for a regular appointment. But if you’re unsure, we invite you to please call us. We're here to offer our help!

Family Dentistry

Instead of taking your child to one clinic, your teen to an orthodontist and yourself to a different dentist, family dentistry in Logan Reserve brings care for various ages together in one place.

At Logan Reserve Dental, we see everyone from toddlers visiting for their very first check-up to grandparents needing restorative care. Services include:

  • Cleanings and exams
  • Tooth-coloured fillings

Family dentistry can save many patients time while focusing on continuity of care. This means you can have one dentist who knows your dental history and your family members' dental histories.

We also focus on creating a welcoming, relaxed environment for patients of every age. Many children can benefit from a gentle, fun introduction to dentistry, while adults can take advantage of advanced treatments like CEREC same-day crowns or dental implants. Parents especially appreciate being able to book family appointments back-to-back for added convenience.

Full Smile Makeovers

A full smile makeover is a customised treatment plan designed to alter teeth and other aspects of one's smile. Unlike a single cosmetic treatment, a makeover combines multiple procedures tailored to your specific goals.

Depending on your needs, a smile makeover may include:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Porcelain veneers
  • Crowns
  • Dental bonding
  • Orthodontics (like Invisalign)
  • Dental implants

The process begins with a consultation where we listen to your concerns. Whether it’s discoloured teeth, gaps, chips, uneven gums or missing teeth, we can design a step-by-step plan just for you.

Candidates for Full Smile Makeovers

Many patients seek smile makeovers before major life events such as weddings, reunions or career changes. Beyond aesthetics, some treatments in a smile makeover also improve function, so you can chew and speak more comfortably or effectively.

Thanks to modern technology, we can show you previews of your results and complete certain treatments, like same-day crowns, in just one visit.

We invite you to call us today to book your full smile makeover consultation at Logan Reserve Dental. We welcome patients from all surrounding areas, and we offer various payment options. Periodontal Treatment

Periodontal treatment refers to the care of your gums and supporting bone structure, which form the foundation of your smile. Without healthy gums, even the strongest teeth can be at risk.

Gum disease (periodontitis) is a common but serious condition caused by bacteria and plaque buildup that inflames and damages gum tissue. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss and has been linked to systemic health issues such as heart disease and diabetes.

Periodontal Treatment in Logan Reserve

Treatment begins with professional cleanings and scaling to remove plaque and tartar. In more advanced cases, procedures like root planing, local antibiotic therapy or even advanced laser treatments like LANAP® (Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure) may be recommended. LANAP uses laser technology to gently target diseased tissue while leaving healthy tissue intact, promoting faster healing and less discomfort compared to traditional gum surgery.

Signs of Gum Disease

Signs you may need periodontal treatment include:

  • Bleeding gums
  • Bad breath
  • Gum recession
  • Loose teeth

In many cases, the earlier gum disease is caught, the easier it is to manage. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene at home are also important in preventing periodontal issues.
